Frequently Asked Questions
Many people have questions about Chinese medicine and wonder what they can expect from a visit to my clinic. Below are answers to some commonly asked questions. As always, if you have further questions you would like to discuss, please feel free to contact me at 970-426-2464 or email me at info@rootandbranchmedicine.com.
Does acupuncture hurt?
90% of my patients fall asleep on the treatment table, so the answer to the general idea of acupuncture being an uncomfortable or painful experience is “NO”. Some points on the body are more tender or sensitive than others. Couple this with different people’s experience of physical sensations in their bodies, and a person can expect sensations to range from not even feeling a needle being inserted to momentary discomfort.

What can I expect from my first treatment?
An initial appointment of about 1 ½ hours will include a discussion around specific and general health questions a patient may have. I ask questions in an attempt to get a sense of the overall situation and assess how one symptom may result from or affect many other areas of a person’s health. In addition to this conversation, the insertion of micro-fine needles into various points on the body, a procedure known as acupuncture, may be a technique I use to help a patient reach their desired state of wellness. An herbal formula may be recommended according to a patient’s diagnosis. Most appointments also include some amount of medical massage, and diet therapy and exercise recommendations are often part of the treatment experience.

How long until I see results?
Each patient and condition is unique so certainly the quality and speed of results will vary. Some people have immediate success while others take longer. I believe that if we are not seeing positive results in four or five treatments then we need to reevaluate our approach and consider other options.
